SEA SCOUT SHIP 940, for girls and boys ages 14-20, is the water-based adventure program of Scouting America. Ship 940 is the Council wide, year-round Sea Scout program that offers water-based adventures, optional advancement, and skill training. Our focus is small boat sailing, whitewater kayaking and rafting, motor boating, ice boat sailing and ice fishing, SUPs and all things water-based. We meet monthly, usually at our monthly activity's location.
Sea Scouts can still be, and often are, in a Scouts BSA troop at the same time!
Scouts join Ship 940 to supplement their troop program with water-based adventures.
Ship 940 utilized Stillwater Lake at Camp Minsi occasionally when not on the rivers and stores its equipment at Camp as well. Ship 940 was formed in 2020 to compliment and cooperate with Venturing Crew 940 , also at Camp Minsi.
Sea Scout units, called ships, are established all across the country on oceans, bays, rivers, and lakes. Ship 940 does not own a physical ship, but we do have an inventory of whitewater kayaks and gear, and access to the paddle craft at Camp Minsi Aquatics.
Maritime Club 940 (for ages 10-14, www.Club940.com) is affiliated with Ship 940 and share many of the same program adventures!
